What is ContextAds?

ContextAds is Contextual advertising for Linden Labs' Second Life virtual world. While traditional advertising involves simply placing hoardings or video boards in-world, with the hope that they'll be relevant to avatars who see them, ContextAds boards actively respond to those avatars, only showing relevant advertisements.

How does ContextAds work?

A ContextAds board listens to the conversations of those avatars around it, displaying advertisements when certain keywords are mentioned. Advertisers can bid on keywords, with their account only being charged when their ads are actually shown. Avatars can click on advertisements of interest to them, and can be offered a website, or a teleport to an in-world location.

How can ContextAds benefit me?

Any land owner in Second Life can take a ContextAds board on their land - all ads displayed on that board will earn the land owner 10% of the total bid price. Amounts of less than L$1 are recorded and totaled, so a board owner will not lose them. A board owner can retrieve his or her earnings from the ContextAds office at any time.

How can ContextAds benefit an advertiser?

Currently, over $1,600,000 (US Dollars - not in-world Linden Dollars) is being spent every 24 hours⁽¹⁾ in-world. Any business, whether with an in-world presence or not, should be able to tap into this lucrative market, and targeted in-world advertising is by far the most efficient method. ContextAds is simple to use, effective and affordable.

I'm a land owner - how do I sign up?

Simply visit the ContextAds office in-world (Bluenose 112, 23, 97). Right-click the large board on the wall, and select "Buy". The board is free. Return to your land, and position the board wherever you like. The board is double sided, and so can be freestanding, or positioned against a wall. The first time a keyword is spoken, your board will be registered with the ContextAds servers - from then on, all ads shown will earn you money!

Restrictions

• You can only place one ContextAds board on any parcel of land
• You must own the land you place the board on for it to work
• ContextAds boards will not work if there is another object showing streaming video on the same parcel of land

I'd like to advertise - how do I sign up?

To register as an advertiser, visit the ContextAds website at: www.slcontextads.co.uk.

1. Click "Register"
2. Fill in your details and submit the form. Ensure your avatar name and email address are correct
3. You'll receive a confirmation email. Click the link in it (or copy and paste it into your browser). You're now a ContextAds advertiser!
